Wolftrap Farm, Lindsay & Ryan, Gordonsville, VA | VA Wedding Photographer

Relaxed farm wedding in the hills of Virginia. Wolftrap Farm Wedding Photographer.

I have known Lindsay for several years and when she contacted me about documenting her wedding I was humbled. She was looking at several venues in West Virginia and Virginia and eventually settled for Wolftrap Farm a little north of Charlottesville. It is a gorgeous venue and I highly recommend it. Given that they live in the D.C. area it made sense to have it kind of halfway to West Virginia, where a lot of her family is. We met up a little earlier in the year for an engagement shoot in Canaan Valley near Davis, WV, which is where I first met Ryan. He is a pretty awesome person. The two meshed well and was looking forward to their wedding.

The wedding day moved along right on time. I traveled from Roanoke having shot a wedding there the night before – back-to-back-wedding weekends are crazy – and when I arrived Lindsay said she wasn’t looking too have too many getting ready photos made. I made a few candid images of them and then we moved on to the first look in front of the National Register of Historic Places plaque on the old farm house at Wolftrap Farm. After the first look we had a lot of time to do some couples portraits around the property and worked in several different locations. The ceremony was perfect, with wine and beer setup for guests to grab and enjoy in the hot September sun. What a breathtaking backdrop they choose under a magnificent sweeping tree limb. Family and wedding party did their thing with smiles and laughs. Then with tears in her eye on her father’s arm she made her way down the aisle. The wedding was just right.

The reception was held down a gravel road from the ceremony site with the mobile brick pizza from Blue Ridge Pizza Co. – they killed it – setup making pies. Lots of smiles and sipping as families met and talked. Kegs from the local Devil’s Backbone coupled with some fine spirits kept the party moving. First dance turned into a group effort as the night moved slowly to dark. A bonfire was lit and relaxing was all left in the evening. We wanted to incorporate some kind of sunset image and we had to race to a field to capture it. This image, which is the main one for the post, is one of if not my favorite images that I captured in 2017. Below are some of my favorite photos from their day. Enjoy
