A relaxed wedding at a mountain inn tucked away in the mountains of West Virginia.

I was contacted a while back by Rob and Jason who were living in Seattle for their wedding they were planning at the Guest House at Lost River. They asked if was available and if I had ever shot a same-sex wedding before. I said yes to the first and no to the latter. I told them I would be more than willing to and that as a artist I constantly study how same-sex weddings are photographed and approached. They put a lot of faith in me to cover their day and I hope I lived up to their expectations (a side not, since that conversation I have photographed three same-sex weddings, including theirs).

The day started as it usually does with meeting the Guest House’s two owners Gary and Jesse, who always give such warm welcomes. Rob and Jason weren’t interested in the “getting ready shots” so I hung around getting details and candid of guests and so on. Then we started out shooting some portraits of them and letting that awkwardness ease out with some fun walking and goofing around shots. Their dog killed it. And their tweed suits were spot on. The ceremony was relaxed, loving and moving. The best part of this job is getting to be witness to the most intimates moments of peoples’ lives.

After the wedding we had a delicious meal, always prepared excellently by the staff at the Guest House – seriously, if you haven’t stayed there you need to. After we ate we ran out to try and catch some kind of sunset shot. We were a little late, but I’m happy with what we managed to get. Then it was back for full on party mode. There was a lot of liquor and dancing. Dancing and liquored. It was awesome! Below are some of my favorite images form their day. Enjoy.
